Biomedical Systems and Informatics Engineering

Overview

The Department of Biomedical Systems and Informatics Engineering was established in 2007 with the support of the European Union / Tempus Program, which offers two undergraduate programs: Bachelor’s degree of Science in Engineering Technology with a major in Biomedical Systems Engineering (BME) and bachelor’s degree of Science in Engineering Technology with a major in Biomedical Informatics Engineering (BMIE). The study plan for the two programs has been prepared with international cooperation involving three European universities and Jordanian educational institutions. The study plan meets the needs of regional and global markets. The department's programs consist of 167 credit hours taught over five years.
The department is led by 14 highly qualified faculty members in all disciplines of biomedical engineering. 5 faculty members teach the BMIE core courses. The department is furnished with (6) laboratories operated by (4) engineers. Each year (80 - 100) students are enrolled in BMIE program, currently, about (800) students in total. The department staff members have participated in many international and local scientific conferences. The faculty members perform scientific research in various fields such as Biomedical Instrumentation, Biomedical Signal Processing, Biomedical transducer, Medical Imaging, Medical Image Processing, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Bioinformatics, Medical informatics, Parallel computing, and Artificial Intelligence.
