ِAbout the Center:
In the 29’th of July, 2003 His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al-Hussein inaugurated the Prince Faisal Information Technology Center (PFITC) in a ceremony that was attended by Yarmouk University President, his two deputies, deans of colleges, KADDB General Director, his deputy, prominent officers of the Jordanian armed forces, Jordanian air force, and some military attaches and the regional manager of Park Controls & Communications Ltd. of India.
(PFITC) is an entity formed jointly by the King Abdullah II Design & Development Bureau (KADDB), Yarmouk University (YU), and Park Controls & Communications Ltd. of India for the first three years. Then a decision was taken to continue in this venture without Park Controls & Communications Ltd. of India
Vision
PFITC is looking forward to fulfill the requirements of the Jordanian armed forces and the local market with a future look to the regional area through providing post graduate studies and technical training for engineers in fields of specialty, also to become a pioneer of introducing a new dimension to the IT Services, Embedded System Design and the related emerging technology areas in the region through cooperation between KADDB and Yarmouk University.
Mission
The main mission behind setting up this center is to transfer to Jordan and the Middle Eastern area the technical know-how and experience in the emerging technology fields.
Main Roles
- ACADIMIC ROLE
There are three Master Degree Programs under the aegis of the Yarmouk University of Jordan, their plans had been approved by the Yarmouk University and agreed upon by the Ministry of Scientific Research and High Education of Jordan , these MSc programs are:
Master of Science in Computer Engineering–Embedded Systems:
The computer engineering department has introduced a non-thesis MSc program in Computer Engineering / Embedded System in 2003 in cooperation with (PFITC).
Main focus is to develop embedded systems software and hardware design skills and to enable the students to work on projects involving Real Time and Embedded System Design under Embedded Linux, hardware design using Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) or Verilog, and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
The computer engineering department has introduced the thesis MSc track in Computer Engineering / Embedded System in 2009 in cooperation with (PFITC).
Both tracks have a total of 33 credit hours , but for the non-thesis track graduate student has to pass the comprehensive test after finishing the course work.
Master of Science in Wireless Communications:
The communication engineering department has introduced a non-thesis MSc program in wireless communications engineering in 2010 in cooperation with (PFITC). The program is directed to military officers who would like to enhance their knowledge and skills in wireless communications engineering. The program consists of 27 credit hours of specialized and advanced courses in wireless communications in addition to 6 credit hours of Master project. The program started in 2010 and its annual intake is about 10 students.
Graduate student has to pass the comprehensive test after finishing the course work.
Master of Science in Electrical Power:
The electrical power engineering department has introduced a non-thesis MSc program in electrical power engineering in cooperation with (PFITC). The program is directed to military officers who would like to enhance their knowledge and skills in electrical power engineering. Main focus on power system operation and control, modern control theory , distribution system ,power electronics and power system protection. The program consists of 33 credit hours of specialized and advanced courses in electrical power. The program started in 2012 and its annual intake is about 10 students.
Graduate student has to pass the comprehensive test after finishing the course work. - Training ROLE
Short Term Courses:
Training on selected topics in the emerging technology areas that is directed towards extending training to the trainees in developing embedded systems software and hardware design skills and enable them to work on projects involving Real Time and Embedded Systems under Embedded Linux, hardware design using (VHDL or Verilog) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). - UPGRADE, UPDATE & RETROFIT SERVICES
PFITC will also undertake design and development for upgrade and update of Defense, Industrial and IT related Equipment in the following areas:
Design and development of new military applications.
Modify, update, and retrofit the existing operational software and hardware in operation with the Jordanian Armed Forces (Land Forces, Air Force, Navy, etc.) and Public Security.
Design, develop or update the software diagnostic test programs for the electronic boards (analogue, digital & hybrid) to be tested on the Automatic Test Equipments.
