About the Department
Established in 2012, the Department of Civil Engineering at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University, is committed to delivering high-quality education and research in civil and infrastructure engineering. The department offers three degree programs: a Bachelor in Civil Engineering, a Bachelor in Smart and Sustainable Cities Engineering, and a Master in Construction Engineering and Management. These programs are designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to meet the demands of the evolving construction and urban development sectors.
The department is home to a diverse group of faculty members with expertise spanning major civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, transportation and pavement engineering, geotechnical engineering, water resources, environmental and wastewater treatment engineering, and construction project management.
To support experiential learning, the department maintains a suite of specialized laboratories operated by skilled engineers and technicians. These facilities provide students with hands-on training in construction materials testing, soil mechanics, hydraulics, surveying, and environmental analysis—bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The department plays a vital role in preparing future engineers to contribute meaningfully to sustainable infrastructure and smart urban development at both national and international levels.
Degree Programs
The Department of Civil Engineering at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University, offers two Bachelor’s degree programs: Civil Engineering and Smart and Sustainable Cities Engineering. These programs are designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, and construction engineering, while also addressing the growing need for sustainable and smart infrastructure in modern urban environments.
The department also offers a Master’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management, which equips students with advanced knowledge in construction planning, project management, cost control, and modern construction technologies. The program is ideal for engineers seeking to lead large-scale construction projects or pursue academic and research careers in the field.

Faculty Members
The Department of Civil Engineering is led by a dedicated team of faculty members whose expertise covers a broad spectrum of civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, transportation and pavement engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, and wastewater treatment. With academic training and professional experience from reputable institutions, our faculty bring a balance of research-driven insight and industry relevance to the classroom.
The department is committed to academic excellence and innovation, with faculty members actively engaged in cutting-edge research, scholarly publications, and participation in national and international conferences. Their work contributes to advancing knowledge in sustainable infrastructure, smart cities, advanced construction materials, and engineering solutions tailored to regional challenges.
Faculty members play an essential role in student development by integrating hands-on training, design studios, and research-based projects into the curriculum. Through close mentorship and real-world application, they prepare students to meet the growing demands of civil engineering practice and leadership in both public and private sectors.
Laboratories and Engineers
The Department of Civil Engineering is equipped with a comprehensive set of modern laboratories that support both practical education and applied research across the core areas of civil engineering. These facilities include the Engineering Drawing Lab, Materials of Construction Lab, Surveying Lab, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Lab, Soil Mechanics Lab, Pavement Lab, and the Sanitary Engineering Lab.
Each laboratory is designed to reinforce theoretical coursework with hands-on experimentation, allowing students to develop a strong understanding of civil engineering concepts through real-world application. Whether working with materials testing, surveying instruments, hydraulic systems, soil analysis, or pavement design, students gain critical technical skills that are essential to the field.
The labs are operated by qualified engineers and technicians who ensure a safe, well-equipped, and engaging learning environment. These professionals also support students in conducting experiments, completing course projects, and developing graduation research.
Beyond classroom instruction, these labs serve as a foundation for student innovation, applied research, and industry-related training—preparing graduates to meet the practical demands of engineering roles in construction, infrastructure development, environmental systems, and public works.
The department continuously upgrades its lab facilities to keep pace with evolving industry standards and educational advancements.
