
Hijjawi Faculty Hosts National Permeable Concrete Competition
On behalf of the President of Yarmouk University, the Vice President for Development and Global Rankings Affairs, Dr. Mwaffaq Otoom, sponsored the Permeable Concrete Competition, organized by the student chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology. The event featured the participation of 12 teams from 7 Jordanian universities.
In his remarks, Dr. Otoom—joined by Vice Dean of the Faculty Dr. Zaid Al-Batainah and ACI Middle East and North Africa Regional Director Eng. Ahmad Mahna—emphasized the importance of such events in developing students’ practical skills, fostering innovation, and encouraging teamwork. He noted that this competition serves as a key milestone in engineering skill development and strengthens Yarmouk University’s position as a national leader in engineering education, innovation, and experiential learning.
Eng. Mahna praised Yarmouk University’s efforts in organizing the competition, highlighting the critical role academic institutions play in supporting the civil engineering sector.
Meanwhile, Eng. Salah Abu Obaid, representative of the Jordan Concrete Association, stressed the importance of student activities in building bridges between academia and the job market. Dr. Fares Matalqa, advisor of the ACI student chapter at Yarmouk University, underscored the competition’s value in connecting theoretical learning with hands-on application.
The event featured intense competition among participating teams. The final results were as follows:
