About the Program

The Bachelor in Architectural Engineering degree program at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University, was established in 2013. It is designed to develop students into creative and competent architects with a deep understanding of both the technical and artistic dimensions of the built environment.

The program combines architectural design, engineering principles, and environmental awareness to address the challenges of contemporary architecture. Students are equipped with knowledge in areas such as architectural theory, structural systems, building materials, construction methods, urban design, environmental control, and sustainable architecture. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of design thinking with scientific and technological foundations, preparing students to shape functional, aesthetic, and socially responsible spaces.

Practical learning is a cornerstone of the program, supported by hands-on studio work, modeling and computer-aided design (CAD) labs, and site visits. In their final year, students undertake a comprehensive graduation project that synthesizes their academic and practical experiences in a professional-level design proposal.

Continually updated to reflect local needs and international trends, the program cultivates the skills necessary for success in professional practice or advanced studies. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in architectural design, urban planning, construction management, and related fields within both public and private sectors.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years after graduation:

1
Graduates will have broad practical knowledge in various areas of Architectural Engineering, enabling them to build successful careers in government, as well as in regional and global industry and service markets.
2
Graduates will continually develop their skills throughout their careers or engage in innovative scientific research and ongoing education.
3
Graduates will possess professional skills and practice principles that enable them to serve society effectively in a multidisciplinary work setting, with a strong awareness of their ethical and social responsibilities.
4
Graduates will value lifelong learning and develop the necessary skills to attain leadership roles, work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and communicate proficiently.
Student Outcomes (SOs)
1
An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
2
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
3
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
4
An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
5
An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
6
An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
7
An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Study Plan

The Bachelor in Architectural Engineering degree program comprises 167 credit hours, offering a balanced integration of theoretical knowledge and practical design experience. Core and advanced courses cover architectural design, construction technology, structural systems, building science, sustainability, environmental control systems, and urban and regional planning.

Students gain hands-on experience through a sequence of architectural design studios, where they apply creative and technical skills to solve real-world design problems. Supporting laboratories—such as modeling labs, computer-aided design labs, and environmental control labs—reinforce classroom learning through applied work.

The program includes career development components that span the undergraduate years, helping students build design communication, presentation, and professional skills. A two-term graduation project and a two-month full-time field training in architectural firms or construction companies are required, providing students with direct exposure to the profession and practical experience in the field.

Students holding recognized certifications in design software or related architectural technologies may waive up to three elective courses. The curriculum also includes foreign language courses to enhance global engagement and expand opportunities in international architectural practice and education.

This well-structured and comprehensive study plan prepares students to become skilled architectural engineers capable of addressing the diverse and evolving challenges in the built environment.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Bachelor in Architectural Engineering degree program possess strong design, technical, and project management skills that prepare them for a wide range of roles in both the public and private sectors. With a solid foundation in architecture, sustainability, and building technologies, they are equipped to contribute effectively to the planning and development of the built environment.
